DOMAINE DUBOIS
BASTIDE DES DEUX LUNES
Cotes de Provence, France
The Bastide des Deux Lunes – Fortress of the Two Moons – is a family Domaine located in Puget-Ville, 34 miles west of Saint-Tropez, in the heart of Provence.
Bertrand Dubois knows that everything starts in the vineyards, and lavishes his 22 hectares with enormous care. He inherited the land from his grandparents in 2000, and moved gradually from selling the fruit to the co-op to estate bottling. After 15 years as a consultant wine-maker he’s proud to put his own name on his own wine.
It sits at the foot of the Massif des Maures, in the middle of a Permian depression that surrounds the Maures from Toulon to St Raphael, and separates the ‘Provence cristalline’ from the ‘Provence calcaire’, or the igneous and metamorphic Provence from the limestone Provence. The soil is rounded pebbles and calcareous gravel over a Permian sandstone base. The soil has good drainage, but excellent retention at lower levels, encouraging deep roots. The resulting wines are complete, elegant and balanced.
