Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux, France
Why on earth would Jerome Caillé and his family have moved from the island of Mauritius in the Indian ocean to Bordeaux? Well, the rolling hills of the Cotes de Castillon are among the most beautiful spots in France. The place seems a world away from the merchants’ mecca of Bordeaux city, which is a scant hour to the west. Jerome and his family fell in love with Chateau Robin. They set about learning how to make wine, with a great deal of success. Their approach reminds you a lot of the small wine-making estates in the Loire and the hills of the Languedoc: passionate dedication to terroir, and wonderfully drinkable wine. More like poets in the hills than the empire-builders to the west.
