DOMAINE ROGER PERRIN

Chateauneuf du Pape, France

www.roger-perrin.com

This domaine was founded at the turn of the last century, but really came into its own when the late Roger Perrin took over from his father-in-law in 1969. In 1986 he was succeeded by his son wine-maker Luc Perrin, who continued to make dramatic improvements. Tragically Luc died at an early age in 2010. His sister Veronique Perrin-Rolin, a trained oenologist who had been working in Burgundy, and her son Xavier (trained in Macon) have assured his legacy.

The domaine is something over 40 hectares, in 61 separate lots. The production amounts to a total of 22,000 cases, of which Châteauneuf and Côtes du Rhône represent a quarter each, and table wine the balance. Much of the table wine is declassified appellation wine, concrete evidence of high standards.
